Overview

What is it all about?

A kindergarten in Harskut is the first school in Hungary to use solar panels.
Nearly forced to close down because they couldn’t afford their power bills, the solar panels now cover up to 80% of their power needs.
The project is part of a nation-wide effort in Hungary to equip schools with solar power.

How does it work?

The school has two solar panels on the roof and two boilers where solar energy is converted into hot water for the kitchen and bathrooms.

Social benefits

Energy costs for the school were so high that the facility almost closed down. Now, with the solar panels installed, it can stay open. With the new savings, the school can even afford new teaching materials and toys for the kids. show all

Environmental benefits

As solar power is 100% renewable, the school buys less energy that comes from the burning of fossil fuels.

How reductions happen

This school have installed solar panels on their roof which harness the sun’s energy and provide all the hot water for the school. As 80% of their power needs are now covered by this renewable source they have to rely much less on the burning of fossil fuels.

All the schools and kindergartens should use solar power - it is not only cheap for them but also could educate children.
